Issues with Google Play Store (Android Market)
According to the user feedbacks, try removing Proxy or Proxy and Port both . Removing these attributes should solve the problem.

A newer version of these settings are available here. If these settings are not working on your Android, try that one here: http://mobilebroadband.gishan.net/entry/93/airtel-internet-mms-settings-for-android

We have verified the settings with Airtel. The settings we have provided are correct. As we have identified, this is a common problem with Android Market or network ports and not a problem with the settings we have provided. We recommend you testing your Android Market installation using another network over 3G. Anyhow you should be able to use the Market with Wi-Fi. Anyway we are expecting to communicate with the relevant parties about this issue.

I tired with etisalat and dialog and both the networks were flawless. The thing I noticed with airtel was that, even if I were in “WCDMA Only” mode, the data rate that the device recieve is insufficient. Most of the time, other networks run 3G very well where Airtel is not. I still have the problem and I contacted the Airtel Customer Care. They guided me to use “WCDMA only” mode when I’m in the “A” Market. So the only solution is to go with that!

Hi Siyas,
We propose moving with Imesh’s solution for the moment. If it is still not working please report. May be we’ve to discuss it with Airtel Lanka. Anyway there’s no problem in the settings provided here. The problem is in the side of the ISP (Internet Service Provider).

Hi Ranindu,
This is not a problem with your settings. It is a problem with the Android package (apk) you are downloading. Most possible reasons can be either the apk file is not supported with your OS version or it is corrupted. Even it is not in our scope, sometimes we can anyway help to check the compatibility of the APK if you can provide us your phone modal, android version and the package you tried to download. In the meantime try to download some different package to check whether you have access to the Google Play app store. Also make sure that you have the latest version of Google Play. Actually Android Market is outdated now. New app is Google Play.

@cga:
We do not recommend ROM reinstallation. It will NOT anyway fix your problem. This is a problem with the service provider as we guess. As you can see from some of the comments above most of the Airtel users are facing the same problem with Google Play downloads. First, please insert a different network SIM card, then setup GPRS settings for that network (GPRS/MMS settings for all networks for Android are available here: http://mobilebroadband.gishan.net/tag/an..) and then try the same Google Play download(s). Most of the time this should fix the problem and you can verify whether it is a problem with your phone or your network. Also remember that Google Play has some known issues.

@dulaj:
You can switch between GSM and WCDMA. GSM includes only GPRS and EDGE.
WCDMA includes both 3G (UMTS actually) and HSPA. Availability of HSPA depends on the network tower you have subscribed. If your tower has 3G then it has HSPA too. Phone always gives higher priority to HSPA other than 3G. It will only switch to 3G if HSPA is unavailable.
Therefore you don’t have to worry about this.

Rehan,
This is a network error. Please try adding/removing Proxy and Port. This can happen when installing apps in Google Play due to some other problems even your network is okay. Try downloading the package via Wi-Fi.
