Free Internet Browsing with Google Free Zone

UPDATE:
Google free zone is no more available with Dialog. Therefore you don't have to bother reading below.
Sorry about that.

But it seems you can browse Wikipedia still for free by visiting http://zero.wikipedia.org

Now you can use most of the services operated by Google completely free of charge from your internet enabled mobile device.

The websites you can browse for free currently are,

  • Google search
  • Gmail
  • Google+
  • Websites linked from Google search results pages

You need a mobile device with internet access and a Google account to register for this.

Currently Dialog Axiata is supported with this service (introduced as Google Free Zone by Google and Free Zone by Dialog)
(Only 4 mobile networks in the world support this service at the moment: Philippines - Globe, South Africa - 8.ta, Indonesia - Telkomsel, Sri Lanka - Dialog Axiata. So you are lucky to have one in Sri Lanka!)

To get Google Free Zone benefits form Dialog, visit freezone.dialog.lk from your mobile or smartphone. You will not be charged for data consumed for the sites mentioned above.

Important considerations when using Free Zone:

  • You should use your mobile device's default browser.
  • Free Zone is available for mobile devices only. No PC or tablets.
  • Gmail won't provide attachments under this service. All attachment downloads will be charged.
  • Only the first page opened by any Google search result will be free. Further clicks will be charged.
  • Not applicable for roaming.
  • You need to login to your Google account to use the service.
  • Blackberry won't support the Free Zone. (unconfirmed)
  • Google Apps accounts cannot be used.
